Enclosed by massive stone ramparts, the fort contains colonial-era buildings, churches, museums, and cobblestone streets. It is one of the best-preserved fortified cities in Asia and remains a living heritage site with shops, cafes, and residences.

Galle Lighthouse
Galle Lighthouse is Sri Lanka’s oldest lighthouse, located within the Galle Fort overlooking the Indian Ocean. Originally built by the British and later reconstructed, the lighthouse stands as a prominent coastal landmark. It offers scenic ocean views and complements the historic charm of the fort’s southern ramparts.

Housed within a restored Dutch warehouse inside Galle Fort, the museum highlights the island’s long-standing relationship with the sea and its role in international trade routes.
